German-Hungarian midfielder who won Olympic gold and five Champions Leagues.
Dzsenifer Marozsán (born 18 April 1992 in Budapest) is a former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. She holds both German and Hungarian nationality, and represented Germany internationally. Her career included spells with 1. FC Saarbrücken, 1. FFC Frankfurt, Lyon, Saudi club Al Qadsiah, and the German national team.
Marozsán moved to Germany at age four after her father, a four-time Hungarian international, signed with 1. FC Saarbrücken. She started playing on a boys' team at DJK Burbach before joining Saarbrücken's youth setup. The German Football Association pushed for her naturalization—along with her whole family, since she was a minor—so she could play for Germany.
At 14 years and 7 months, she became the youngest player ever to appear in the German Bundesliga, and later set the record as the league's youngest goal scorer at 15 years and 4 months. She joined 1. FFC Frankfurt in 2009. With Frankfurt, she finished second in the Bundesliga twice and reached her first UEFA Women's Champions League final in 2012, losing to Lyon. In the 2015 final against Paris Saint-Germain, her stoppage-time cross set up Mandy Islacker's winning goal, giving Frankfurt its fourth European title. Marozsán led the tournament in assists (eight) and was named to UEFA's team of the tournament. After Frankfurt finished third in the league in her final season, they missed out on Champions League qualification.
She moved to Lyon ahead of the 2016–17 season. There she won the UNFP D1 Féminine Player of the Year award three years in a row (2017, 2018, 2019). In the 2018–19 season, Lyon completed a domestic double and won the Champions League. She signed a contract extension through 2023 in June 2020, after considering a move to Utah Royals FC; the COVID-19 pandemic and the suspension of the U.S. league season influenced her decision to stay. In 2021, she was loaned to OL Reign alongside goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi from June to December. A right knee ACL rupture in April 2022 kept her out of the 2022 Champions League final and the 2022 European Championship. She extended her Lyon contract until June 2025. In March 2024, she was named German Football Ambassador of 2023, winning the public vote ahead of Mélanie Leupolz. She played her 200th match for Lyon on 1 April 2024 in a 3–0 win over Le Havre.
